Featured Speaker - Lt. Gen. Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr.

A 1977 Angelo State graduate, Lt. Gen. Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr. is the highest-ranking alumnus of ASU’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 and currently serves as commander of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) headquartered at Fort Meade, Md.

Hawkins earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from ASU and is a distinguished graduate of the ROTC program.  He also served as ROTC corps commander and was a member of the Rams track and field team that won Lone Star Conference titles in 1974, 1975 and 1977.

During his illustrious U.S. Air Force career, Hawkins has also completed assignments at the Air Force Academy and with Strategic Air Command, Air Combat Command, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Headquarters Air Force, the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.  His many commendations include the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and Defense Superior Service Medal, the fifth-highest U.S. military honor.

Hawkins and his wife, Maria, have three grown children, Ronnie III, Joshua and Christine Honesty.  Ronnie III is an Air Force fighter pilot, Joshua is a pilot with the Air Force’s Thunderbirds demonstration squadron, and Honesty is a school guidance counselor in Maryland.
