Civil War Lecture Series: “The Civil War, College Football and the American Pursuit of Masculinity”

Dr. E. James Hindman, president emeritus of Angelo State University, will speak on “The Civil War, College Football and the American Pursuit of Masculinity” for ASU’s Civil War Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center.

The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. and is open free to the public. Hindman will explain how the Civil War’s legacy extends to sports, particularly the development of American football. 

A native of Lubbock, Hindman served as ASU president from 1995-2007 and as a professor in the History Department from 1995 until his retirement in 2012. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in history from Texas Tech University.
