‘Watson’ at ASU Auditorium

Friday, October 17, 2014 8 p.m.
University Theatre at Angelo State University will continue its 2014-15 season with the comedy-mystery “Watson: The Last Great Tale of the Legendary Sherlock Holmes” today in the ASU Auditorium.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. today and Oct.18. Tickets are $8 for the general public, $4 for non-ASU students and $3 for ASU students.  Admission is free for Arts at ASU subscribers and ASU activity card holders. The ASU Auditorium is located in the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Avenue N.

The comedy borrows the famous characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but with a twist or two. For one, Sherlock Holmes’ trusted friend and colleague, Dr. John Watson, takes the lead on this a globe-trotting caper that also envisions the duo interacting with famous people of that era, such as Queen Victoria and Sigmund Freud. The play premiered in 2010 at the Sacred Fools Theatre in Los Angeles and has since been staged across the country.

Written by Jaime Robledo, “Watson” won the Los Angeles-based Saturn Award. Robledo wrote the play in a series of sketch comedy shows for his Serial Killers series staged at Sacred Fools Theater. The ASU production is directed by Mike Burnett, assistant professor of theatre and assistant director of University Theatre.

“Watson” is appropriate for an 18-and-older audience as it contains some mature language.

Tickets are available at the ASU box office in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive. The box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays.  For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.
