UCPC: Speaker Dave Carroll

Tuesday, November 4, 2014 7 p.m. Free

Guitar-Playing Activist to Visit
Angelo State University will host guest speaker Dave Carroll, author of “United Breaks Guitars: The Power of One Voice in the Age of Social Media,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Room 100 of the Mathematics-Computer Science (MCS) Building, 2200 Dena Drive.

The singer-songwriter from Halifax, Canada, drew international attention after his guitar was broken during an airline trip and he took to social media to launch a campaign protesting the customer service he received. The 2009 YouTube recording of his song, “United Breaks Guitars,” went “viral” and a new era was launched for customer-business relations. Carroll, now a professional speaker as well as entertainer, also co-founded Gripevine.com, an online customer complaints resolution platform that brings consumers and businesses together in a mutually beneficial way.

His appearance, sponsored by the University Center Program Council, the Student Organization Leadership Fund, the Lambda Pi Eta communication honor society and the Communication Graduate Student Association, is free and open to the public.

More information on Carroll is available online at www.davecarrollmusic.com.
