University Theatre at Angelo State University opens its 2015-16 season with a summer dinner theatre production of “Talley’s Folly,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy by Lanford Wilson, that continues Thursday, July 2, in the ASU Modular Theatre.

Show times are at 8 p.m. July 2-4, with dinner to be served at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50 for ASU students, $15 for non-ASU students and Arts at ASU subscribers, and $20 general admission. The Modular Theatre is located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The first of two Arts at ASU summer dinner theatre productions, “Talley’s Folly” premiered in 1979 and also won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. Set on July 4, 1944, the one-act play features two characters, Matt Friedman, a bookish, erudite and funny accountant from St. Louis, romancing the shy and uncertain Sally Talley in her family’s ornate, deserted Victorian boathouse.

“Talley’s Folly” is directed by Dr. Bill Doll, professor of theatre and director of University Theatre. The student cast includes Tyler Hastings and Adam Rich, alternating as Matt Friedman, and Tessa Handlin and Jordon Shocklee, alternating as Sally Talley, offering returning audiences an opportunity to see how different actors handle the same roles.

University Theatre costumer Eldra Sanford and ASU technical director Matt Chilcoat are working on the show with a student production crew that includes Kala Young, scenic designer; Kathrine Patrick, stage manager; Julia McDaniel, assistant stage manager; Samantha Lewis and Elizabeth Holland, carpenters; Angela Baumann, electrician/board operator; Jose Villedas, master sound technician; Leslie Schniers, wardrobe manager; Alison Morantes, properties manager and house manager; and Kathryn Graham, maître d’.

Tickets go on sale in the ASU box office on Monday, June 15, for Arts at ASU subscribers and on Wednesday, June 17, for all others. The ASU box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays. For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.

Subscriptions for the 2015-16 Arts at ASU season are still available for $30. Subscribers gain free admission to plays and concerts, and pay just $15 for dinner theatre productions.
