Dinner Theatre: “The Dinner Party”

Thursday, August 6, 2015 6:45 p.m.

University Theatre at Angelo State University presents a summer dinner theatre production of the Neil Simon comedy “The Dinner Party,” continuing Thursday, Aug. 6, in the ASU Modular Theatre.

Show times are at 8 p.m. Aug. 6-8, with dinner service beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50 for ASU students, $15 for non-ASU students and Arts at ASU subscribers, and $20 general admission. The Modular Theatre is located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Master of comedy Simon serves up “The Dinner Party” as a chaotic gathering among five unknowing guests and their host at a first-rate restaurant in Paris. The guests don’t know why they have been invited but they have a sneaking suspicion the evening will forever change their lives. The one-act play premiered in Los Angeles in 1999, was staged at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in 2000 and opened on Broadway that same year.

Directed by Michael Burnett, assistant professor of theatre and assistant director of University Theatre, the play’s student cast consists of Tyler Tennell as Albert, Jose Villedas as Claude, Jacob Scott as Andre, Kathryn Graham as Mariette, Leslie Schniers as Yvonne and Megan Croyle as Gabrielle.

ASU technical director Matt Chilcoat is leading a student production crew that includes Josiah Hernandez, stage manager; Elizabeth Holland, scenic designer and charge painter; Nick Ellis, costume designer and wardrobe supervisor; Angela Baumann, lighting designer; Caden Glass, sound designer and sound board operator; Samantha Lewis, properties master, running crew and assistant stage manager; Alison Morantes, assistant wardrobe supervisor and running crew; Callie Stenson, master electrician and light board operator; Brittani Beggs, house manager; Collyn Glaspie, maître d’; and Tyler Hastings, box office manager.

Tickets go on sale in the ASU box office on Monday, July 20, for Arts at ASU subscribers and on Wednesday, July 22, for all others. The ASU box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays. For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.

Subscriptions for the 2015-16 Arts at ASU season are still available for $30. Subscribers gain free admission to plays and concerts, and pay just $15 for dinner theatre productions.
