Art Gallery: “Four Hands” Exhibition

Angelo State University presents an exhibition of visual art by ASU faculty member Dr. Laurence Musgrove  and his daughter, New York-based artist Myra Musgrove, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Titled “Four Hands” to signify the collaborative nature of their work, the exhibit will be housed in the EFA Building’s Gallery 193 and will be open for public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Friday, March 11. The Musgroves will also be featured at a gallery talk and reception at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

The exhibit will include eight poems from Dr. Musgrove’s book “Local Bird,” published in May, accompanied by Myra Musgrove’s illustrations. Also on display will be “Drawing is Learning,” an academic journal article in comic format published by the Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives in Learning,as well as three large-scale-format comics co-authored by the Musgroves.

Dr. Musgrove is chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, where he teaches composition, literature, creative writing and comics. His poetry has appeared in Concho River Review, Buddhist Poetry Review, Elephant Journal, Inside Higher Ed, Southern Indiana Review and Red River Review. Myra Musgrove lives and works in Brooklyn, N.Y. She has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Saint Xavier University, the Center for Cartoon Studies and the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. Her illustrations have appeared in PS Magazine, a pro-aging lifestyle publication designed for and about seniors.
