Theatre: “Baby With the Bathwater”

University Theatre at Angelo State University opens the 2016-17 Arts at ASU season with a summer dinner theatre production of “Baby With the Bathwater,” a sharply satiric comedy about parenthood by Christopher Durang, concluding Saturday, July 9, in the ASU Modular Theatre.


Show time is 8 p.m. July 9, with dinner served at 6:45 p.m. 

Tickets are $12.50 for ASU students, $15 for non-ASU students and Arts at ASU subscribers, and $20 general admission. The Modular Theatre is located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The first of two Arts at ASU summer dinner theatre productions, “Baby With the Bathwater” premiered in 1983 and has been staged from New York City to Brisbane, Australia, to critical acclaim. The play opens with new parents so inept they are embarrassed to check on their child’s gender, then follows the trials and tribulations of that child, a boy named Daisy. ASU’s production will be in the play-within-a-play format. Set in a kindergarten classroom, the actors will play children pretending to be adults and parroting what they have heard at home and on television.

Dr. Bill Doll Dr. Bill Doll Directed by Dr. Bill Doll, professor of theatre and director of University Theatre, the student cast includes Jaslyn Diaz, Callie Stenson, Julia McDaniel, Alison Morantes, Caitlin Anderson and Ricky Jaime.

University Theatre costumer Eldra Sanford and ASU technical director Matt Chilcoat are working on the show with a student production crew that includes Samantha Lewis, lighting designer; Arianna Gonzalez, sound designer and house manager; Eli Rodriguez, stage manager and box office manager; Jacob Scott, assistant stage manager and properties manager; Adam Rich, wardrobe manager; and Katharine Patrick, maître d’. 

Tickets go on sale in the ASU box office on Monday, June 20, for Arts at ASU subscribers and on Wednesday, June 22, for all others. The ASU box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays. For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.
