Concert: ASU Trumpet & Percussion Ensembles
Titled “Trumpet and Drum – Then and Now,” the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open free to the public. Musical selections will feature trumpet and drum combinations, jazz favorites by the Trumpet Ensemble accompanied by a rhythm section, historic works from the 20th century by the Percussion Ensemble, and hot Latin music by the joint ensembles.
The trumpet and timpani combination “March for the Ark” by C.P.E. Bach will open the concert, followed by music for timpani by Jacques and Andrew Philidor and Bach’s “March for Two Pairs of Kettle Drums.”
The Trumpet Ensemble, accompanied by piano, bass and drums, will perform a variety of jazz selections, including the popular “St. Louis Blues” and music written by prominent trumpeter Shorty Rogers. The Percussion Ensemble will perform “Trio Per Uno” by Nebjosa J. Zivkovic.
The two ensembles will then join together to close the concert with two Latin music selections.
The Trumpet Ensemble is directed by Dr. John Irish, professor of music. The Percussion Ensemble is directed by Trent Shuey, assistant director of bands. More details on the ensembles are available at www.angelo.edu/dept/arts/music/ensembles.php.
