Guest Artist Exhibit: Juanita Exiga Wyatt

ASU will present a guest art exhibit of prints by Mexican-American artist Juanita Exiga Wyatt beginning Monday, June 5, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Titled “Trace and Restore 2,” the exhibit will be on display in the EFA Building’s Gallery 193 and will be open for free public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Friday, Aug. 11. 

A 2009 ASU alumna, Wyatt embraces many mediums in her printmaking, including oil paint, graphite, charcoal, photography, and hand-stitching on paper, canvas and fabric, to explore the concepts of storytelling and storyteller. In her art practice, she has also been working on combining prints on foam structures and the traditional practice of sewing. The stories in her work reflect concepts of memory, cultural identity, superstition and folk-healing traditions.

In addition to her art practice, Wyatt is a college recruiter for the School of Art at Texas Tech University. In that position, she has been involved in many portfolio review sessions, VASE state art competitions and National Portfolio Day events. She previously worked as an adjunct art instructor at Texas Tech and Central Texas College. She and her husband also own and operate a furniture restoration and design company, The 3:23 Concept, in Temple. 

Wyatt earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking at ASU and a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking from Texas Tech. In 2015, she completed an artist residency at Surel’s Place in Garden City, Idaho.
