Visiting Artist Exhibit: “Fiction: Sculpture and Wall Reliefs by Larry Graeber”

ASU will present a public exhibit of various artworks by San Antonio-based sculptor and painter Larry Graeber, Oct. 2 - Nov. 3, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Larry Graeber Larry Graeber Titled “Fiction: Sculpture and Wall Reliefs by Larry Graeber,” the exhibit will be housed in the EFA Building’s Gallery 193 and will be open for free public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 3. 

Graeber will also be a panelist for the fifth biennial Richard and Pam Salmon Sculpture Symposium that will run from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, in Room 101 of the EFA Building. 

Graeber began exhibiting his work in 1971 at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts (now the DMA), and his first major solo exhibition was in 1974 at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. In 1976, he produced his first public sculpture, a 14-foot Plexiglas-and-steel sculpture commissioned for one of San Antonio’s downtown parks. Since then, he has produced artworks that have been showcased in exhibitions throughout Texas, as well as in Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Washington, D.C, Japan, South Korea and Sweden. 

Raised in Austin, Graeber spent two years at Southwest Texas State University and a brief stint with the facilities and design division of the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation as a muralist and carpet designer. Upon relocating to San Antonio, he studied sculpture at Trinity University, filmmaking at the Southwest School of Art, film history at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and printmaking and jewelry at San Antonio College.
