FG RAMS Mentor Application

image

The First Generation RAMS Mentor program helps incoming First Generation freshmen adjust academically and socially to life at Angelo State University. As a mentor, it will be your job to build a positive relationship with your mentee, to encourage him or her to thrive as an ASU Ram, and to provide support as needed.

Does this mean that you need to have it all together and have all the right answers to be a good mentor? No, it doesn’t. In order to be a mentor, you need to have at least one year of experience on campus, which probably includes making some mistakes and learning from those mistakes. It also means that you need to have the maturity it takes to communicate the lessons you have learned from your experience into something others can learn from– without having to make those same mistakes.

There are three requirements that you must meet in order to be considered for a position as a mentor.

  • You must have been a student at Angelo State University for at least two long semesters.
  • You must have earned a minimum GPA of 2.25 for the previous semester.
  • You must have the desire and dedication necessary to build a mentoring relationship with a fellow student.

As you complete this application, please be as specific and honest as the space allows—the authenticity of your responses will greatly aid us in the selection and matching process.

You may receive text message reminders from Multicultural Center staff or your mentees...

The FG RAMS program is made up of several elements. In order to be an effective mentor, you MUST participate in all aspects of the program to the best of your availability.
Where are you from? Tell us a little bit about your hometown-- where is it located, how big is it?
Tell us a little bit about your experience at ASU. What organizations, sports, or activities are you involved in? If you work, where do you work and how much do you work? Are you committed to any volunteer/community service efforts?
What are some of your post-college goals? Once you have your degree in _____, what would you like to do?
