The Library Cafe
Owner/Manager: Toro Vaughn
Nature of Business: Coffee Shop and Cafe
City: San Angelo, Texas
SBDC Advisor: Paul Howard
Toro is a true entrepreneur. He owns Angelo Donuts and Café in San Angelo and also Broadway Classic Donut Shop in Ballinger. Toro was approached by the Tom Green County Library. The plan for the brand new library was to include a coffee shop in the building. Toro thought this would be a great opportunity for him and decided he would bid on the contract.
A business plan was required so Toro met with Advisor Paul Howard of the Angelo State University ∙ Small Business Development Center. Paul and Toro went to work developing a solid business plan. The determination was made to propose a certain amount that Toro would pay for leasing the space. It went before the Tom Green County Commissioners and was approved. The Library Café was now set to open. Toro says, “Sharing the experience and implementing the ideas into practical results of business, such as business plan, financial proposals and marketing with the SBDC was very helpful to me.”
The Library Café has now opened in the new space and is a great addition to those who visit the library. Toro is very excited to be a part of this and his business has helped San Angelo and the Concho Valley grow. The business has created six new jobs as well.
