Founded in 1906 in San Angelo, the Robert Massie Funeral Home is the oldest locally owned funeral home in the area. The business was started by Robert Massie and his wife Mary, both of whom have residence halls named after them at Angelo State University.

James Campbell was a long time employee of Massie Funeral Home and one of its key managers for many years. The current owner wanted to retire and move out of town, giving James a chance to purchase the business. James came to see ASU-SBDC Director Dave Erickson for help in understanding the buying a business process and in understanding the SBA loan package process.

Director Erickson helped James with the purchase process as well as assisting with financial projections. In addition Erickson assisted with development of the business plan and the SBA loan package James would present to the bank.
