New Cheer Coaches Hired

Matt Escue and Amanda Chambers, teachers at San Angelo Central High School, have been hired as the new part-time coaches for Angelo State University’s cheerleading squad.

Matt Escue Matt Escue An ASU alum and former cheerleader, Escue (Class of 2001) has been Central’s cheer coach for 13 years and a math teacher there for 15 years. Under his guidance, Central’s cheer team has won three National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) national titles and the 2016 UIL Fight Song State Championship. While at ASU, the San Angelo native also worked for the NCA.

Amanda Chambers Amanda Chambers A native of Lubbock, Chambers was a cheerleader on the statewide Cheer Athletics’ award-winning Fierce Catz team before serving for three years on the Texas Tech University co-ed cheer team. During her time at Texas Tech, the team placed every year at the NCA College Nationals. After graduating from Texas Tech in 2012, she joined Central as a special education teacher.

“Angelo State University is very fortunate to have two very knowledgeable and skilled individuals like Matt Escue and Amanda Chambers to coach the Angelo State cheer team,” said Dr. Javier Flores, ASU vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. “Together Matt and Amanda bring almost 40 years of experience with cheerleading.” 

Brandy Quigley Brandy Quigley ASU’s 2015-16 team, coached by Brandy Quigley, brought home several top honors from last summer’s Universal Cheerleaders Association Cheer Camp at Texas State University in San Marcos. Competing in Division II, ASU’s 15-member cheerleading squad earned first place in the Cheer, Sideline Performance and Game Day categories, as well as the Most Collegiate Award and the Leadership Award. The team also took second place in the Fight Song category, and Roscoe the Ram won third place among team mascots. Quigley, a teacher at San Angelo Lake View High School, has resigned from her ASU cheer coaching duties to spend more time with her family.

“I am very thankful and appreciative for the hard work, dedication and service Brandy Quigley provided Angelo State and the cheer squad,” Flores said. 

Tryouts for the 2016-17 ASU cheerleading squad will take place May 21. More information is available at www.angelo.edu/cheerleader
