ASU Flag Football Team National Runner-Up

January 18, 2012

IM Legends, an Angelo State University intramural flag football team, finished as national runner-up at the 2011 National Campus Championship Series (NCCS) Flag Football National Championships held Jan. 4-6 at Texas A&M University.

Playing in the co-rec division, IM Legends defeated a Stockton College team, 26-0, in the quarterfinals and won a semifinal game, 62-6, over a Texas Tech University team before falling to a University of Central Florida team, 26-0, in the championship game.  This marked the second straight year a team from Central Florida defeated an ASU team in the tournament final.  ASU’s New Era finished as runner-up in 2010.

In the men’s division, ASU’s Wolfpac reached the semifinals after defeating a team from Georgia Southern University, 41-12, but lost to the champion Central Florida team, 26-20, in the semis.  New Era also competed in the men’s division, falling to a Texas Southern team, 32-29.

IM Legends’ Reid Jackson and Kristine Crockett, and Wolfpac’s Trevor Brunet were named to the all-tournament team.  In addition, Drew Biggerstaff received All-America honors as an official.

In 2010, IM Legends won the American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) National Championship, and in 2011 fell just one game short of adding the NCCS title to its trophy case.
