Wool Judging Team Wins San Antonio Stock Show Contest

ASU sent two four-person teams to the contest to compete against 18 other teams from Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and Colorado State University. The ASU team made up of Morgan McCullough of Eden, Destiny Cowley of Floresville, Maggie Louton of Helotes, and Macayla Barnett of Lometa scored 2,114 points to finish in first place. The ASU team made up of Ty Mitchell of Palmer, Bailey Hooten of Wall, Tate Schwartz of Wall, and Lexi Carroll of Krum scored 2,071 points to finish fifth overall.
Individually for ASU, McCullough won first place with 715 points after finishing in the top five in each of the four judging categories. Mitchell scored 706 points to place seventh overall.
In the team categories, ASU finished first and second in Grading, second and seventh in Placing, fourth and sixth in Reasons, and fourth and sixth in Placing & Reasons.
In in the individual categories, Barnett, Cowley, Carroll, McCullough and Hooten all finished in the top 10 in Grading; Mitchell, Louton and McCullough all finished in the top 10 in Placing; and Mitchell and McCullough finished in the top 10 in Reasons and in the top five in Placing & Reasons.
Meanwhile, ASU’s Meat Judging Team also competed on Feb. 11 at the Iowa State University Meat Judging Contest in Ames, Iowa.
Competing against 12 other teams, including 10 from Division I universities, ASU finished sixth overall with 3,717 points. Oklahoma State University won the contest with 3,896 points.
Individually for ASU, Ashleigh James of Lubbock finished in 13th place in the field of 83 competitors. The other ASU team members are Macye Boyd of Meadow, Ryan Brashear of McKinney and Natasha Kling of Cibolo.
