Celebrating African Americans and Women

February 26, 2018

Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden teaches us the importance of African American and Women’s History Month.

Carla Hayden is an excellent example of why we celebrate February and March as African American and Women’s History months. The 14th Librarian of Congress is the first African American woman appointed to the position, and serves as a reminder of a time when women and people of color did not have the same opportunities that they have today. Ms. Hayden encourages all students to be history detectives, and states, “There are archives and papers still waiting to be read.”
