ASU Grad Students to Showcase Research

April 24, 2012

Angelo State University graduate students will present the results of 20 different research projects during the first annual Graduate Research Symposium on Friday, April 27, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The symposium will feature a research poster session from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center, and is open free to the public.  The students will be available to discuss their projects with campus and community visitors, and light refreshments will be served.

Projects featured in the Graduate Research Symposium represent research from the academic departments of Agriculture (5), Biology (3), English (2) and Kinesiology (10).

The new symposium, along with the Undergraduate Research Symposium held earlier this month, replaces the Student Research Showcase that was conducted for the past 10 years during the fall semester.  The increasing number of both undergraduate and graduate students involved in research projects precipitated the change to the dual-event format. Each symposium highlights the breadth and complexity of ASU student research.

The symposiums are sponsored by ASU’s Academic Affairs Office and Office of Sponsored Projects.  They recognize students’ contributions to the universal body of knowledge through their research and creative activities.  They also provide student interaction with community members who are interested in research activities on campus.
