Angelo State University Hires New Director of Counseling Services

May 08, 2018

Angelo State University has hired Mark Rehm as the new director of counseling services, effective May 15. Rehm takes the position held previously by Cleave Pool, who retired in April.

In his role at Angelo State, Rehm will supervise counselors and counseling programs and provide counseling-related services to both individuals and groups of students. He will be responsible for counseling and assisting students and implementing outreach programs designed to educate students, faculty and staff about available services. He will also maintain and further develop relationships with local mental health care providers to expand the nature and scope of Angelo State’s counseling services.

A Tennessee native, Rehm is a licensed professional counselor and approved supervisor. He has nine years of counseling experience at institutions of higher education, most recently serving as the associate director of counseling and training director at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

In addition to university settings, Rehm has four years of experience as a therapist in private practice, counseling adults and families and conducting marriage and group counseling. He has experience working with people exhibiting a wide range of mental health conditions, but has a particular interest in working with college students suffering from depression, social anxiety and identity issues and experiencing challenges unique to men.

Rehm earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and his master’s degree in professional counseling from Richmont Graduate University.
