ASU Choirs to Sing ‘In the Key of Glee’ at Pavilion

April 07, 2011

Angelo State University’s Chamber Singers and Vocal Ensemble will perform selections from the popular television series “Glee” during the ninth annual Pops at the Pavilion concert on Thursday, April 14.

This year’s concert, “In the Key of Glee,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitor Center’s pavilion, 1620 University Ave. The program is open free to the public.

This year’s theme was chosen by ASU’s choir students and will highlight the music of the popular Fox television series, “Glee.” In its third season, “Glee” has won numerous awards and has built a large fan base that spans age groups from teenagers to baby boomers.

The April 14 concert will feature authentic “Glee” arrangements of songs by Journey, REO Speedwagon, Van Halen, Neil Diamond and Joan Jett performed by the university singers. They will also perform more recent tunes of Michael Bublé, Sarah MacLachlan and Avril Lavigne, as well as the 1970s soul single “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Several solos and duets will be featured in the concert.

Lee Middle School’s Rebel Rage show choir under the direction of ASU alumna Patti Wetzel will join the ASU choir in the concert. They will perform the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” and “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves.
