ASU to Announce ‘The Big Idea’ for its QEP Topic

April 25, 2011

Angelo State University’s Quality Enhancement Plan Director Dr. Doyle Carter will unveil “The Big Idea,” or topic, for the university’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont.

The announcement represents completion of the first step in a three-year process to develop a QEP as part of ASU’s reaccreditation process. In August 2010, the Quality Enhancement Plan Development Committee (QEPDC) began gathering input from constituents on campus and in the community through multiple formats, asking, “What’s Your Big Idea?” The topic had to focus on improving relevant, practical student learning outcomes. The QEPDC then issued a call for proposals from teams of faculty, staff and students.

With the results now in, a QEP topic has been approved for development. The topic will be further developed and then implemented in coming years as the centerpiece of ASU’s re-accreditation efforts. The ultimate goal is to impact student learning in significant and positive ways.

“Much work lies ahead,” Carter said. “We have two years of research and development, piloting an implementation strategy, and finalizing a document for submission. Once the topic is reviewed and approved for full implementation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in the spring or summer of 2013, we plan to begin implementation that fall.”
