The House of Fifi Dubois
July 03, 2012
Phyllis Cox knew she had to do something. Her retail business, which had been successful in the past, was down this year. Her sales had decreased substantially and she needed something new to help drive people through her doors.
Phyllis turned to Business Advisor Pedro Ramirez from Angelo State University’s Small Business Development Center for assistance. During the initial planning stages, a team of SBDC advisors met with Phyllis to review her store and its potential. At the end of the day, she decided her business could be expanded to include a lounge that would cater to nonsmoking wine and beer drinkers. She also decided the best option was to include a live music stage to help draw in the type of clientele she sought.
Phyllis stated the SBDC was “very helpful during the planning stages of the lounge. They were instrumental in providing me with information to make my project and opening of a lounge a success.” These days The House of Fifi Dubois is synonymous with good times, good
wine, and good music. Her nonsmoking environment has drawn an entirely new market segment to the San Angelo downtown and has saved her business.
