ASU Music Professor to Perform Free Concert

August 31, 2010

Dr. Jeff Womack, Angelo State University assistant professor of music, will present a double reed concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The concert in the Eldon Black Recital Hall is open free to the public. Womack is the principal bassoonist for the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra.

He will perform works on the bassoon and two selections on the contrabassoon. He will be accompanied by Carol Dewar on the piano and assisted by Dr. Constance Kelley on the flute, Dr. Christine Buckstead with vocals and Dr. Daniel McCloud on percussion.

The program will include a variety of works by Roger Boutry, James Lassen, Michael Burns, Luigi Zaninelli and Pierre Max Dubois.

Womack has performed nationally with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and Kokopelli Wind Quartet. He has taught master classes at Kansas State University, the University of Oklahoma and the Cork Institute of Music in Ireland. He also gave a full recital and presented a master class at the University of Tennessee in August.

Performing along with faculty colleagues Dr. Tim Bonenfant and Kelley as the Mesquite Trio, Womack premiered his original composition called “Rustic Celebration” for woodwind trio at the International Double Reed Conference earlier this year at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. The work has been accepted and is in production with Prairie Dawg Press.
