ASU to Present Trio in Concert

Dr. Timothy Bonenfant, associate professor of music at Angelo State University, will present a concert with guest musicians Dr. Michael Schneider and Dr. Francesco Mastromatteo on Monday, Aug. 26, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open free to the public.  It will feature Bonenfant on clarinet, Schneider on piano and Mastromatteo on cello.

The instrumental program will include “Trio No. 7 for clarinet, cello and piano” by Rich Sowash, “Sonatine for clarinet and piano, opus 100” by Darius Milhaud, “Sonata for cello and piano in D Major, opus 38” by Francesco Cilea and “Trio for clarinet, cello and piano in A minor, opus 114” by Johannes Brahms.

Bonenfant directs the ASU Jazz Ensemble, Clarinet Choir and Saxophone Quartet.  He holds advanced music degrees from the California Institute for the Arts and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Schneider, a graduate of San Angelo Lake View High School, has performed and competed internationally, including a performance of Franz Liszt’s “Dante Sonata” at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., for the American Liszt Society Annual Festival.  He is frequently featured as a soloist with the San Angelo Symphony and has soloed with numerous other symphonies.  He holds degrees from the University of North Texas, Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Texas.

A native of Italy, Mastomatteo has won several prizes at national cello competitions, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in cello performance from the Conservatory of Pescara and the Pescara Musical Academy.  He also holds a master’s degree in performance from Southern Methodist University and a doctorate in cello performance from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas.
