ASU Club Café to Feature Comic

August 21, 2013

Television and movie comedian “Lil Duval” will bring his MTV-flavored humor to Angelo State University’s Club Café coffeehouse entertainment series on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

“Lil Duval,” the stage name for Roland Powell, will appear at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center.  Admission prices will be $2 for ASU students and $5 for the general public at the door.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments and drinks will be served.

The host of MTV2’s “Ain’t That America with Lil Duval,” Powell adopted his stage name to pay homage to his home town of Jacksonville in Florida’s Duval County.  He got his start doing standup comedy in Atlanta, where he was a regular at the Uptown Comedy Corner.  He also toured with Cedric the Entertainer and appeared in the TV special “Cedric the Entertainer: Starting Lineup.”

Powell has released two comedy DVDs, “Dat Boy Funny” and “Put Your Hands on Me,” and has made regular appearances on BET’s “Comicview” and MTV2’s “Guy Code.”  He has also had roles in the feature films “Choices II: The Setup” and “Scary Movie 5.”
