ASU Intramural Teams Place at National Tournament

Vixen, an Angelo State University intramural flag football team, reached the semifinals of the 2009 National Campus Championship Series Flag Football National Championships held Jan. 3-5 at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Playing in the women’s division, Vixen defeated the Truman State Bulldogs 25-0 in the quarterfinals and then lost to eventual champion Florida A&M’s Simply Marvelous 9-0 in the semifinals. Vixen’s Danielle Low was named first-team All-American at the tournament.

ASU’s Elite reached the quarterfinals in the men’s division after defeating Georgia Southern’s Bena Jones squad 28-21, but lost to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte’s Encore 33-12.

ASU co-recreational squad, The Invisibles, lost 20-6 to Texas Southern’s LokkDown in the first round of the championship bracket.

Elsewhere, Josh Boynton, an ASU intramurals graduate assistant, received an All-American award as one of the top 12 officials in the nation at the American Collegiate Intramural Sports National Flag Football Tournament held at the University of New Orleans on Dec. 29-31.
