ASUFIT Begins New Challenge, Open to Area Residents

January 12, 2010

“Spring into ASUFIT” will challenge Angelo State University faculty, staff and students to step up their fitness and, this year, anyone in the San Angelo area can participate.

The challenge will begin Jan. 31 and continue until April 10. An awards ceremony will be held after the challenge ends with trophies going to the teams that accumulate the most time in each category. Teams will be divided into students, faculty, staff, supporter and mixed divisions.

Medals will go to all teams that reach one of the three goals based on average minutes of exercise per day. The goals include gold for 120 minutes of qualifying exercise per day, silver for 90 minutes and bronze for 60 minutes. Qualifying exercise includes walking, bicycling, jogging, swimming, aerobics and body combat. All activities are welcome as long as participants reach their target heart rate using the calculator on the ASUFIT Web page.

Results will be measured by the average exercise time per week for each team. To reach the team average, the times per week for all members will be added and the total will be divided by the number of team members.

The ASUFIT program, which began in 2008, is a university initiative that supports an active, healthy, vibrant and productive lifestyle where health-enhancing behavior is the norm.

Registration deadline for the team challenge is 5 p.m. on Jan. 30.
