Florida Author to Speak at ASU

February 25, 2014

Dr. Lisa Tillmann, author of Between Gay and Straight: Understanding Friendship Across Sexual Orientation, will speak at Angelo State University at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

An associate professor and chair of critical media and cultural studies at Rollins College in Florida, Tillmann has worked extensively with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.  She will speak on “Ally in Action: Friendship and LGBT Civil Rights.”  The presentation is open free to the public.

Tillmann will chronicle her journey from a small-town girl growing up in the rural Midwest in the 1970s and 1980s to a committed ally working in service of equality and full rights for LGBT people.  Tillman’s appearance is sponsored by ASU’s Gay and Straight Alliance student group and the Student Organization Leadership Fund.
