ASU Hosting Springfest Activities

March 20, 2014

The Angelo State University community, prospective future students and the public are invited to ASU’s third annual Springfest activities Wednesday-Saturday, March 26-29, at various locations around the campus.

Activities will include free food, games, concerts, a tailgate party and discount athletic contests as the university welcomes the new spring season.

Springfest will kick off with a Club Café performance by stand-up comedy duo Frangela at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.  Doors will open at 7 p.m. with admission prices of $2 for ASU students and $5 for the general public at the door.

On Thursday, March 27, ASU students will participate in Project Angelo, an opportunity to serve, explore and experience San Angelo through an afternoon of volunteering for community organizations.

The biggest day of Springfest will be Friday, March 28, highlighted by a series of free public concerts sponsored by the University Center Program Council (UCPC).  Performances will begin at 6 p.m. at the ASU Pavilion.  Headlining will be 5 & A Dime, also known as Greg Kantor, a DJ, electronic music producer and Dance Dance Revolution World Champion from Philadelphia.  The line-up also will include Kevin MaC, a singer-songwriter who has opened for such acts as Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes and Timbaland; the band Scarletta, named one of Billboard Magazine’s Top 10 Country Artists to Watch in 2013; and Jeffrey James, a singer-songwriter who delivers a soul groove with a rock edge.

Also on Friday, the UCPC will host Bongo Ball Mania from 3-9 p.m. on the ASU Campus Green.  A game incorporating the strategies of paintball and capture the flag, Bongo Ball players fire soft foam balls for “good, clean fun.”  At 4:30 p.m., the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity will host its fourth annual Crawfish Boil outside the Food Service Center, 2201 Vanderventer.  At 5 p.m., ASU Orientation Programs will host a Future Ram Tailgate Party at the ASU Pavilion for prospective students and their families.

Friday evening, half-price tickets will be available to the public for the ASU Rams’ baseball game against Eastern New Mexico University at 7 p.m. at Foster Field and for the Rambelles’ softball game against Midwestern State University at 7:30 p.m. at ASU’s Mayer Field.

Springfest activities will wrap up on Saturday, March 29, with half-price public tickets for the Rambelles’ softball doubleheader against Midwestern State starting at 1 p.m. and for the Rams’ baseball doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico starting at 4 p.m.

Additional Springfest sponsors include ASU’s Center for Student Involvement, Housing and Residential Programs Office, Community Relations Office, Admissions Office and Athletics Department.
