Undergrad Research Symposium

April 21, 2014

More than 40 Angelo State University undergraduate students will present the results of their academic research and creative endeavors during the third annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Thursday, April 24, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The symposium will run from 1-2:30 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is open free to the public.  It will feature poster presentations, research displays, a trumpet quartet performance at 1:30 p.m. and a short one-man theatre performance at 1:45 p.m.  Light refreshments will also be served.

Participating students will be available to discuss their projects and creative endeavors that were completed under the supervision of faculty mentors.  This year’s symposium features the efforts of 41 undergraduate students, including students who received Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Research Grants and Undergraduate Research Travel Grants during 2013-14.

Featured projects represent research in the fields of agriculture, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, communication, computer science, English, finance, history, kinesiology, management, music, physics, political science, psychology, teacher education and theatre.  The projects for the symposium were selected through a competitive application process.

The purpose of the symposium is to recognize students’ contributions to the universal body of knowledge through their research and creative activities.  It also provides student interaction with community members who are interested in research activities on campus.

The symposium is sponsored by ASU’s Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR), Undergraduate Research Initiative, and Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
