ASU Officials, Student Government Members Meet With Lawmakers

Angelo State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) students and ASU officials represented ASU as a member of the Texas Tech University System (TTUS) on Feb. 1 during Tech Day at the state capitol in Austin.

The seven students representing ASU included Jeff Harris, former SGA president and current TTUS student regent; Austin Osmanski, SGA president; Hector Romo, SGA vice president; Travis Barnett, SGA president pro tem; and student senators Morgan Ostwinkle, Tiffany Hampton and Rex Johnson.

ASU officials participating in Tech Day included Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, president; Dr. Brian May, graduate school dean; Dr. George Pacheco Jr., graduate director/assistant professor of communication and SGA faculty advisor; and Heather Valle, coordinator of student organizations and SGA staff advisor.

During the event, ASU students met with Rep. Drew Darby, Rep. Charles “Doc” Anderson and office staff for Rep. Jose Lozano, Rep. James White, Sen. John Corona, Sen. Robert Nichols and Rep. Trey Martinez Fisher. They discussed the future of education and looming budget cuts’ potential for damaging the future of Texas.

This is the first time ASU’s Student Government Association has participated in Tech Day as a member of the TTUS. Tech Day is initiated by lawmakers’ resolutions to the Texas Legislature every other year when it is in session.
