Emeritus Texas Tech Prof to Exhibit Art Works at ASU

February 19, 2010

Artwork of Emeritus Texas Tech Professor Ken Dixon will be on display in Angelo State University’s Art Gallery March 2-April 9 in Room 193 of the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building.

Dixon’s exhibition, titled “Order and Disorder – Loop,” will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the EFA Building, 2602 Dena Drive. Dixon will also present a lecture on his work from 4-5 p.m. March 9 in Room 101 of the EFA Building. Both the exhibit and the lecture are open free to the public.

The exhibit will feature several multi-dimensional modular constructions executed in wood and painted in acrylic. Constructed of both two- and three-dimensional units arranged like a puzzle, the work investigates Dixon’s ongoing interest in juxtaposing imagery from nature, science and art history.

A winner of the prestigious National Endowment of the Arts and the Mid-America Arts Alliance Fellowship Award in Painting, Prints and Drawing, Dixon has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and the Midwest. He recently held exhibitions in Lima and Trujillo, Peru.

Dixon earned his M.F.A. degree in studio art at the University of Arkansas in 1968. Represented by William Campbell Contemporary Art in Fort Worth and the Robert Hughes Gallery in San Antonio, Dixon’s work appears in such public collections as the Boulder, Colo., Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Miami, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo., the Tweed Museum in Duluth, Minn., the Modern Art Museum in Forth Worth and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
