Former Ambassador to Speak at ASU Foreign Affairs Speakers Program

Former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ford will be the featured speaker during the two-day E. James Holland-Roy A. Harrell Jr. Foreign Affairs Speakers Program Monday and Tuesday, March 1-2, at Angelo State University.

Ford will address the challenges for U.S. national interests in the Americas and the future role for trade and development assistance on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference center in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. The program is open free to the public.

The U.S. diplomat was ambassador to Honduras from 2005-08 and was the business engagement adviser to the commander of the Department of Defense’s Southern Command. He has been a member of the United States Foreign Service since 1982.

Ford received the President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2008, has also been honored with the Department of Commerce Silver Medal and Gold Medal for distinguished achievement in federal service, and the Department of Commerce/International Trade Administration Bronze Medal for outstanding achievement at the U.S. Mission to the European Union.

In addition to his Tuesday night presentation, Ford will address government, communication and international business classes on Monday, and will participate in a luncheon reception and discussion on Tuesday led by Dr. Karen Cody, head of the Modern Languages Department.

The ASU College of Liberal and Fine Arts, the University Center Program Council and the Center for International Studies are co-sponsors of the program.
