Wright Named ASU Finance VP

June 06, 2014

Angie Wright, who has 23 years of administrative experience at Angelo State University, has been named the university’s vice president for finance and administration, a position she has held on an interim basis for the past 15 months.

ASU President Brian J. May announced the appointment, effective immediately, after a national search reviewed the qualifications of two dozen applicants.

May said, “Her extensive knowledge and experience both with ASU’s financial administration and with the state appropriation process make Angie Wright the perfect candidate for the vice presidential position. She has a proven record of expertise in finance and administration and a commendable commitment to this university and its educational goals.”

An ASU and Lake View High School graduate, Wright joined the university administration in 1991 as payroll coordinator after five years in the private sector. She was named ASU’s manager of business services in 1999. She was promoted to budget director in 2003 and then in 2005 was given responsibility for payroll services as well.

Wright was elevated to assistant vice president for finance and administration in 2006 and then to associate vice president in 2007. She remained associate vice president until her appointment as interim vice president in March of 2013.

She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration at ASU in 1985 and has done additional graduate work since then.

As vice president for finance and administration, Wright will serve as the chief financial officer for the university, reporting to the president. Responsibilities include overseeing financial operations, including budgeting and reporting, as well as facilities and human resource management. Wright had served as interim vice president for finance and administration since 2013 when then VPFA Michael L. Reid resigned to take a similar position at the University of Montana in Missoula.

The ASU vice presidential position is responsible for the Budget Office; Human Resources; Information Technology; Business Services; Controller’s Office; Facilities Management; Facilities Planning and Construction; Materials Management; Special Projects; University Police; Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management; OneCard; and Parking Services.
