Brackin to Lead ASU C&M Office

July 02, 2014

Becky Brackin, Angelo State University’s director of community relations since 2009, has been named director of ASU’s Office of Communications and Marketing.

ASU President Brian J. May announced the appointment July 2, effective immediately. “Mrs. Brackin’s knowledge of and devotion to Angelo State University makes her the perfect choice to advance the mission of the institution,” May said. “I look forward to working with Mrs. Brackin as we in the campus community strive to enhance the academic experience and outcomes for our students.”

Brackin, who earned her Bachelor of Business Administration at ASU in 1985, previously was the president and publisher at the San Angelo Standard-Times and gosanangelo.com. She also had been marketing and online director at the Scripps-owned newspaper and held positions in the newsroom and advertising department. She also served as a community relations coordinator and public relations director during 10 years with the San Angelo Independent School District.

Since returning to ASU, Brackin has served on the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) leadership team and other QEP committees in developing and marketing the “community engagement” topic. She has collaborated with other campus offices, such as athletics and student life, to promote events and advocacy for the university.

She currently serves as secretary of the ASU Staff Senate and on the board of directors and executive committee for the United Way of the Concho Valley. She is also a member of the West Texas Training Center advisory board and the SAISD Site-Based Decision-Making Committee. As well, she is a member of the Central High School Parent Teacher Organization board of directors.

Brackin’s community involvement has included board positions with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Tom Green County, Leadership San Angelo Alumni Association, and San Angelo Business and Education Coalition. She has served on boards and in volunteer roles for numerous other area organizations throughout her career.

The ASU Office of Communications and Marketing serves as a marketing and publicity resource, developing campaigns through multiple media. The office works with information technology staff to manage and update www.angelo.edu, the university website, and social media channels.
