ASU Band Director to Present Marimba Recital

March 22, 2010

Dr. Daniel McCloud, Angelo State University director of bands and percussion instructor, will present a marimba recital on Thursday, March 25, in the Eldon U. Black Recital Hall on the ASU campus.

The 7:30 p.m. recital inside the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building is open free to the public. The EFA Building is located at 2602 Dena Drive.

McCloud will perform works by major percussion composers including Keiko Abe’s “Prism Rhapsody” and Paul Bissel’s “Alabados Song.” In addition, McCloud will present some of his own works.

The program will exploit the various timbres of the marimba, which is not often in the spotlight. The instrument, similar to the xylophone, uses keys or bars usually made of wood and struck by mallets to produce mellow musical tones.
