Fall Commencement Speaker Announced

Reyes will address graduates of the College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services during a 10 a.m. ceremony. He will speak to graduates of the College Business and the College of Arts and Sciences in a 2 p.m. ceremony. About 500 ASU graduates are expected to walk across the stage during the two graduation exercises.
A 1981 ASU graduate, Reyes was named president/CEO of Buckner International in May of 2012. Prior to that, he served as president from 2010-12 and as president of Buckner Children and Family Services from 2007-10. Buckner International is a global Christian social services organization that provides humanitarian aid, community enrichment and prevention programs, foster care and transitional housing services, domestic and international adoptions, and support programs for orphanages in other countries. It also operates seven senior living communities in Texas, including San Angelo’s Baptist Memorial Center.
Before joining Buckner in 2007, Reyes was president of Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio from 1999-2006. He has also served as pastor of Love Field Church and North Temple Baptist Church in Dallas and was the founding pastor of the Pueblo Nuevo Community Church in El Paso. Also active in the Baptist General Convention of Texas, he served as the organization’s president in 2005.
In addition to his ASU Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Reyes holds Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Andrews University. He has also completed Executive Education at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
He has held adjunct faculty positions at Howard Payne University-El Paso, Baptist University of the Américas, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Andrews University and Seminario Teológico Bautista Mexicano in Mexico City. He is a distinguished adjunct professor of leadership at Dallas Baptist University’s Gary Cook School of Leadership and has presented guest lectures at several universities, including Angelo State.
Additionally, Reyes is a board member of the Joint Council for International Children’s Services, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and the T.B. Mason Institute.
Reyes and his wife, Belinda, have three adult children and they are active members of the Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.
