John Tufts began considering a new business after seeing the success of pedicabs in cities like Austin, Texas.  In fact, he was so enamored by the concept, he began doing a lot of research into the industry to learn how it is operated and about its target market.  Since his full-time job is in marketing, it was a natural course to take.

After learning all he could about industry as a whole, John began looking into details and legalities of operating a pedicab in San Angelo. He researched the Code of Ordinances, and talked with the City of San Angelo to see what permits and other requirements he would have to meet in order to bring his pedicab business idea to fruition.

In order to cover his basis and make sure he was not overlooking anything, John sought out the services of the Angelo State University Small Business Development Center and was assign James Leavelle as his advisor. James worked with John to make sure that he had considered everything from legal structure to insurance. He assisted John filing for his LLC and his planning for how he would deal with the city.

John says, “James and SBDC were absolutely essential in getting my business off the ground and rolling. I can’t begin and do not have enough space to articulate their overall worth to my business.”
