ASU Wind Ensemble to Present ‘O Fortuna’

November 08, 2011

Angelo State University’s Wind Ensemble will present its fall concert, “O Fortuna,” on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the courtyard between the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building and the Houston Harte University Center.

The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open free to the public. The program will feature “Carmina Burana,” Carl Orff’s 1937 oratorio, from which “O Fortuna” is taken. “O Fortuna” has been named the most widely heard classical track in the United Kingdom, and movie fans may know the piece from the 1981 film, “Excalibur.”

Other featured musical arrangements will include “Xerxes” by John Mackey, “To a Wild Rose” by Edward MacDowell and arranged by Philip Sparke, and “Precious Metal” by D.J. Sparr, featuring Dr. Constance Kelley of the ASU music faculty.

ASU’s Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Daniel McCloud, is the premier group in the ASU music program consisting of its best instrumentalists. Members represent both the Art and Music Department and other areas of study within the university.
