Dr. Laurence Musgrove Dr. Laurence Musgrove Released on Monday, “Local Bird” is Musgrove’s first collection of poetry. Organized into eight sections, the collection includes new and previously published poems. Some are more playful,  poking fun at modern technology, bureaucratic inefficiencies and even his job as a college teacher of writing. Others are more formal and melodic poems, such as “If You Want Me” and “Barbequing in the Rain” that explore more regular rhythms and rhymes.

A six-year ASU faculty member, Musgrove is the chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages. He teaches creative writing, composition, literature and comics. Author of “Handmade Thinking,” a 2011 book on using hand-drawing techniques to enhance reading comprehension, Musgrove gives workshops on using the technique to help students capture and present ideas from reading materials.

Also a cartoonist, he draws the philosophical “Tex” for his website Texosophy. Founder of Uke San Angelo, Musgrove also offers ukulele lessons and small concerts at area senior facilities.

“Local Bird” is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other book stores, as well as through Lamar University Press.
