Russell is a graduate of Texas Tech University. While in college, tailgating was extremely popular for students. He and his friends attended tailgating parties at every home game. Russell eventually graduated and started his professional career.

He and friends got together occasionally for Red Raider football games and found tailgating was even more popular. Trailers were being outfitted and used specifically for tailgating. Russell thought to himself, “Maybe I can outfit a trailer and lease it out at home sporting events.” He did some research and also met with Advisor Paul Howard of the Angelo State University ∙ Small Business Development Center. It was suggested by Advisor Howard to determine expenses to determine the feasibility of the project. A business plan was also discussed. Russell continued to research and found a trailer that included a SAT television, a fully functional bathroom and other basic needs of a travel trailer. He and two friends went in together and purchased the trailer.

iTailgate is now being leased out on day, weekend and week packages. Russell says, “With the help of the SBDC our business is growing. We started with one trailer and have been booked solid.” iTailgate is even looking to lease out their trailer for this year’s Super Bowl in Dallas. The business hired three employees and may expand to two trailers next season.
