MEJOR QUE NADA
Ray Zapata
Full-Service Mexican Restaurant
San Angelo, TX
SBDC Advisor: Pedro Ramirez
Ray Zapata is not new to the restaurant business; he just took a small break. Having owned the renowned restaurant Mejor Que Nada for over a decade, the experienced entrepreneur thought he retired from the food service industry when he sold his previous restaurant and pursued other interests. Yet quality Mexican food is in his blood it seems, and soon Ray felt the need to go back into the kitchen.
Seeking guidance to help design a rejuvenated restaurant, Ray turned to the Angelo State University - Small Business Development Center and Advisor Pedro Ramirez. During their conversations a draft of the new restaurant, El Mejor, emerged. The bar area was transformed to cater to a sports bar feel for weekend sports lovers and a new breakfast burrito bar is being set up to meet morning traffic.
Today Ray is still enjoying his time in the kitchen by bringing classic dishes and new spins to his traditional recipes. Yet, Ray is not done yet. His aim is to recapture the magic that first drew so many to his old restaurant. In doing so, Ray will continue the tradition of delivering quality food the best way possible…the Mejor way.
