Keeping the Water Flowing

July 13, 2015

In late summer of 2014, the ASU Small Business Development Center was asked to assist the Millersview-Doole Water Supply Corporation (M-DWSC) with a business/marketing plan and general marketing assistance to use as a tool to produce more revenue. In addition they needed a document to present to the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to assist in a restructure.M-DWSC was formed in 1972 as a Texas non-profit corporation for the purpose of furnishing a water supply for general farm use and domestic purposes to its members residing in Concho, McCulloch, Runnels, and Tom Green counties.

ASU SBDC Director Dave Erickson and Business Development Training coordinator Dezaray Johnson met with Micheal Templeton and Cody Giddens of M-DWSC to plan the project. They then met on numerous occasions with Cody to work on a business/marketing plan, including financial projections. In addition Dezaray Johnson helped with marketing materials, website development, social media (Facebook) and a marketing brainstorming session. Graduate assistant Thao Tu assisted with research on producing bottled water products, as M-DWSC wanted to look into the possibility of bottling and selling its own bottled water products.

Erickson was invited to present the final draft to the board of directors for M-DWSC for review and suggestions. The draft was well received and a final business plan and projections were created. The staff and board of M-DWSC were very pleased with the results and they forwarded a copy to the TWDB for their review. Johnson and SBDC staff will continue to work with M-DWSC on marketing issues.
