STAFF SERGEANT JASON P. GAONA
Staff Sergeant Jason P. Gaona is the Administration NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge) for Detachment 847, Angelo State University, San Angelo, TX. He is responsible for all of the administrative processes for the assigned Air Force officer candidates. He works closely with the Commander, Operations Officer, and Recruiting Officer keeping the cadet corps on track and within AFROTC standards. He is also responsible for the direction and supervision of all uniform, tuition, and medical standards of all cadets.
SSgt Gaona enlisted in the Air Force on 29 May 2013. He spent his first three years as an administration troop working at Davis-Monthan AFB (Air Force Base), Arizona, with multiple TDYs (Temporary Duties) to California, Georgia, Alabama, and Arizona. During these assignments, SSgt Gaona conquered various challenges. After finishing his on job training he was assigned to the 55th Rescue Squadron where he was the sole administration representative for 80 aircrew and support personnel. His work ethic and accomplishments earned him two-time 55th Rescue Squadron Airman of the Quarter as well as the 355th Fighter Wing’s Warrior of the Week. During his TDY to California he operated outside of his career field by generating flight orders, programing, and operating radios in support of HH-60G Pave Hawk water operations. Additionally, he also assisted in getting aircrew personnel prepared to deploy in support of Operation Inherent Resolve by delivering realistic live-fire training, while operating pop-up small-arms targets during flight exercises. During his last year in Arizona he was notified of his promotion from Senior Airman to Staff Sergeant, and was selected to fill the NCOIC role at Detachment 847.
SSgt Gaona enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and doing out-door activities such as hiking, kayaking, and running. He is also involved with Goodfellow AFB, by volunteering to assist the MTLs
(Military Training Leaders) in overseeing three training squadrons with over 1,200 airmen.
