John W. Blumentritt

Security Studies

Angelo State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Blumentritt to the College of Business. He will begin his duties as Assistant Professor of Security Studies in the Department of Security Studies Fall 2011.

Before retiring as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force in 2011, he piloted aircraft worldwide and worked as a strategist in the Pentagon. He also served as an assistant professor of aerospace operations while leading a 100-person military strategic studies team at the U.S. Air Force Academy. 

A life-long ASU advocate, Blumentritt participated in the ASU Alumni Leadership Summit in 2001 and was recognized as the 2005 ASU Distinguished ROTC Alumnus.  In 2009, he served as an executive member of the ASU Alumni Advisory Council for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

He earned his PhD in 2009 from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, where his dissertation compared senior political and military leadership during the post-Cold War environment.
