Nicholas J. Negovetich

Biology


Angelo State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Negovetich to the College of Sciences.  He will begin his duties as an assistant professor in the Department of Biology Fall 2011.

Dr. Negovetich is a parasitic and viral ecologist with specializations in biometrics and microscopy.  His dissertation, The influence of a castrating trematode infection on the population dynamics of Helisoma anceps, examined ecological interactions between parasites and their hosts.  His current research interests include parasite population dynamics, the themostability of influenza isolates, and the epidemiology of the H9N2 and H5N1 viruses.

He received a competitive and prestigious post-doctoral position as a research associate at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to study the ecology of viruses.  He has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including the highly esteemed Thomas Cole Alumni research Prize at Wabash College. 

Dr. Negovetich received his PhD from Wake Forest University in May 2007.
