What are some of your favorite things to do in San Angelo, TX?
I love the local parks here in San Angelo, and I spend a lot of my time on the weekends walking my dogs and riding my bike along the river. In February, I especially love the rodeo and the carnival that comes along with it. It is a big local event here in the city, and it is fun to enjoy the sights and sounds.
When students visit your office, what will they see?
They will see a lot of pictures of my animals and my family because they mean the world to me.
What is a word or phrase that describes you?
Enthusiastic and outgoing
What is your favorite place on campus?
While attending ASU, I spent a lot of time in the photography lab. I loved the dark room and creating beautiful photographs that you physically put your time and effort into. You have a lot more appreciation for that art when you are able to do the whole process yourself.
What is your favorite restaurant in San Angelo?
I love the sushi restaurant Nakamura. I have eaten sushi in several other big cities, and Nakamura is still my favorite. They have a wonderful variety on their menu, and the small dining area is a cozy atmosphere.
What advice would you give students about choosing a university?
I think the number one thing students should think about when choosing a university is what THEY want. Find a university that you are comfortable with, regardless of where your friends are going or where your parents want you to go. You are going to be the one spending the next four years there, so you have to be confident in your decision. I also think you should always tour the university and talk to people in the department that you are looking at majoring in.
What advice would you give a student about succeeding in college?
Time management is crucial. It is probably the number one factor that determines your success rate in college. Set up a schedule and goals for yourself, and prioritize things according to importance.
Why did you decide to attend Angelo State?
I came from a big city, so I wanted to go to college where I wouldn't just be another number on a class roster. The professors are very dedicated to what they do and have an open door policy, so they take time to get to know every student.
What is your favorite quote, and why?
Reading is an art form, and every man can be an artist. – Edwin Louis Cole
I love a good book, and I love the fact that no matter what your interests are, you can always find reading material that suits you.
Who was your favorite professor at ASU, and why?
One of my favorite professors at ASU is Dr. John Wegner in the English program. In his World Literature class, he really pushed us to think outside the box and made us challenge ourselves and our ideas. Many of our classes consisted of discussions with people from several different backgrounds, so it really made you think and push yourself intellectually.
What was your favorite class at ASU, and why?
I really enjoyed my Advanced Black and White Photography class. I loved going to the lab and developing the pictures that I took. Print photography is slowly becoming a lost art, and it was fun learning those skills and creating beautiful art from them.
What were your favorite campus activities in college, and why?
I really enjoyed playing intramural soccer while in college. I was able to play with a lot of different people, and I still got to enjoy my favorite sport even though I hadn't pursued it collegiately.
What do you like about being an admissions counselor?
I love meeting new people, and I love bragging about my university. I loved my time as a student at Angelo State University and truly believe it is a wonderful school to attend. Getting to tell other students about the university is an awesome way to spend a work day.
What did you study in college? Why did you choose that major?
I was a communication major with a specialization in radio/television.
I chose communication because I knew I wanted to eventually have a job dealing with public relations and marketing. I felt my personality and skills would best fit those types of jobs, and communication was the best major to make that possible.
What is your favorite ASU fact?
More than half of ASU's graduates each semester are first-generation college students.
