What does Angelo State offer my child?

ASU provides a quality education at an affordable price. With one of the lowest tuition and fee rates among all Texas universities, Angelo State has kept a college education within reach of the typical family.

Will my child receive a quality education?

Absolutely! Besides 40 majors along with numerous concentrations and pre-professional programs to choose from, your child will benefit from small classes and personalized attention in a safe and caring campus community. Your son or daughter will find that 96% of our classes are taught by faculty members rather than graduate assistants.

What will my child be able to do with an ASU degree?

Just about anything your son or daughter cares to do, whether in the public or private sector or in graduate school! Among public universities, our graduates have one of the highest acceptance rates in Texas for graduate and professional schools such as law and medicine. Our graduates also start their own businesses, teach at other universities or in the public schools or work for some of the nation’s top corporations.

Should we be concerned that our child is the first in our family to attend college?

Not at all. Each year approximately half of our graduates are first-generation college students. If your child is the first in your family to attend college, be proud of his or her accomplishment and rest assured your son or daughter is not alone at ASU.

What about a computer for my child?

ASU operates seven state-of-the-art computer labs. With a 15:1 student-to-computer ratio, plenty of workstations are available for your son or daughter. If your child has a computer, he or she can certainly bring it for convenience but it is not necessary for a student to succeed on campus.

Are we required to fill out the FAFSA even if we know our son/daughter will not receive grants?

Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is strongly recommended and, for some financial aid programs, is actually required. For instance, the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for the various programs with a need component, including institutional scholarships, grants, need-based loans and Work-Study. It also determines eligibility for several of the federal and state non-need-based programs, including Stafford, College Access Loans, Parent Loans and others. Completing the FAFSA helps maximize yours and your student’s options in paying for college. If your son or daughter is interested in any of the aforementioned aid possibilities, we strongly encourage you to fill out the FAFSA, though it is not an overall requirement.

Does Angelo State offer financial assistance?

Yes! More than 70% of our students receive financial aid and we are committed to helping you explore the financial aid possibilities available to secure your son or daughter a college education and to ease the burden on you, the parents.

Does ASU offer scholarships?

Yes! The Carr Academic Scholarship Program is one of the largest student scholarship endowments in the nation among public universities and it is right here at ASU. Your child may be eligible for a Carr or other scholarship through ASU.

Will my child feel safe at Angelo State University?

Without a doubt. ASU maintains one of the safest campuses in Texas. University Police actively patrol the campus, provide escort services and sponsor a student officer program to assist other students.

My student has family in San Angelo. Can my student live with them instead of residing on campus?

Even if a student has relatives in San Angelo they can only live with a parent, grandparent, or sibling.  Otherwise, the student will need to receive approval from Residential Programs to live off campus with a relative.  For more information, contact Residential Programs.

What does the community have to offer?

San Angelo, the center of a Texas community of 100,000, offers a wide array of cultural, entertainment and outdoor opportunities, including the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, a Symphony Orchestra, movie theaters with stadium seating, various city and state parks and water activities on Lake Nasworthy and the Concho River. San Angelo, a city rich in Texas history, offers the many amenities of a large town with the convenience of a small town.

What is there to do on campus?

Lots! The University Center sponsors loads of activities, ranging from performances by visiting musicians and comedians to special student programs and mixers. ASU offers a thriving intramural program for those wanting to compete and sponsors championship NCAA Division II teams for those who want to watch football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer and track. On top of that, ASU students can participate in some 80-plus clubs and organizations with others who share interests. In the end, there is more to do than any one student can keep up with.

Will ASU help my child get a job after graduation?

Beginning with your child’s freshman year, ASU’s Career Development office is available to help your son or daughter prepare for a career. Staff can help your child match his or her interests, goals, and skills with a satisfying major and a rewarding career path. Other student opportunities include career fairs, interviewing workshops, resume-writing seminars and much more, all tailored to prepare your child for the real world.

What do we do next?

Let us help you plan an individual visit or sign you up for one of our Discover ASU programs in the fall or spring.
