Advising and Registration
You Have Made the Right Decision
We are happy to welcome you to the campus community at Angelo State University! Exciting changes are happening, and you are entering the university at just the right time to enjoy new facilities, services and academic programs.
SOAR is your next step in becoming a successful college student. Making a good transition, whether you are coming from high school or transferring from another college or university, is critical to the success of your total university educational experience. To help you make the transition, we offer a special one-day orientation, advising and registration program. An advisor will assist you in the selection of your fall semester courses, and university students, administration and staff members will be available to answer your questions.
SOAR Dates and Cost for 2012
Each SOAR session is a one-day program beginning at 8 a.m. and ending after registration in the afternoon. Parents and guests are invited to attend and there will be special activities and sessions for parents/guests. All activities will be completed by 5 p.m.
The student cost for each session is $25 and there is a $15/person charge for each parent or guest attending. This fee includes lunch on the day of the SOAR session.
Some students may need to take an English Placement Exam prior to SOAR and this test is administered on the afternoon before each SOAR session. If you are in the category that may need this test, you will receive a special invitation and instructions on where to report for the exam.

On-Campus Housing for SOAR
A limited number of on-campus housing accommodations are available for the night preceding each SOAR session. Accommodations will not be available for the night following SOAR. The cost is $40 per room for a double occupancy room.
Programs for Parents and Family Members
We offer an opportunity for parents and family members to learn more about Angelo State University. You will attend a special “parent-focused” session presented by ASU staff and administration. These sessions provide great insight into the programs and services available to you and your student here at ASU. This is also a wonderful time to network with other parents and family members.
Even though you will not directly participate in some of the activities with your student, your attendance is very important. Your attitude, behavior and activities related to your student’s education influence his or her learning and educational success. Your attendance will provide a positive level of involvement through increasing your knowledge and understanding of the ASU family. Our faculty, administration and staff are here to ensure both you and your student have a positive and rewarding experience throughout your involvement with Angelo State University.

Meningitis Vaccine
As a service to SOAR participants, we will have available meningitis vaccine shots at a cost of $70 payable by check, cash, debit or credit card (all major credit cards accepted). These shots will be administered during the 8 a.m.–9:30 a.m. period each SOAR morning. We ask that you let us know in advance if you will want to receive this vaccine so we can make sure we have enough doses on hand.
